Welcome to the Official Web Site of
the Vermont Garden Railway Society
locomotives as well as whimsical engines such as a ladybug and butterfly. Membership does not require that you have a layout or even a garden but with the idea that you might like to begin one some day. One of the benefits of the group is the willingness to share knowledge and expertise and we frequently offer volunteer work parties for those just getting started. We particularly welcome the opportunity to help others discover the enjoyment the hobby provides.
During the warmer months, VGRS members frequently host open houses where we gather to run trains, enjoy visiting with one another, and share a pot luck meal. Attendees often show up with new projects to display while others enjoy exchanging or discussing their favorite plants. |
During times of the year when we’re not in the garden, VGRS is actively involved in a variety of displays and shows. The garden train layout at the Vermont Flower Show is always a big attraction. Additionally, VGRS participates in the annual Winooski Dollars for Scholars Train show, the Northwest Model Railroad Association show, and The Harvest Festival at the Adams Farm Market each using the construction of temporary modular layouts.
The camaraderie within the VGRS is one of its greatest strengths. Many wonderful friendships have developed as part of our gatherings. Membership also includes “The Order Board” newsletter which highlights the activities and events of the club. VGRS welcomes new members who wish to grow their desire for “trains in the garden” while participating in club events. We are eager to offer our support in whatever direction you choose with your garden railroad venture and as our motto says: “Just Do It”. We also have club pins and patches for sale. You can learn more at Pins & Patches. |
