Bach Yard & Meditation Garden Railway
Carl & Sally Kokes
Peru, New York Open House - Sunday, June 19 Carl & Sally began the railroad in 1994. It has a "whimsical" personality - that is, whatever looks cute but not necessarily to scale is OK. The design includes 2 main loops of track and a single trolley line totaling close to 500 feet of track. Power to the tracks is provided via Aristocraft's train engineer. Plants are perennials, wild flowers, cedar and a variety of evergreens. Carl feels the most unique aspect of this garden railroad is that it sits on close to 30 TONS of pea gravel, so water drainage has never been an issue and the plants seem to thrive in this. Interestingly, the stones warm up before the soil does and the plants emerge early for this area. Bach Yard features speakers in the garden with music and also areas with specific themes throughout. This includes; a circus area (that is currently in progress), a central town area, an Asian section, a western area, and a cable car climbing up to their gazebo. Carl also has 3 new metal bridges that he contructed as kits. The Open House will be from 1 - 5 p .m. Carl may have enough chairs but but just in case you may want to throw some in. They will provide soda, iced tea, coffee and munchies. They will also have burgers but you will have to cook your own. You could say "you can have it your way!" People are encouraged to bring along a salad or dessert or if you have a special diet you will need to bring that. Bring your favorite train to run and you're also welcome to bring along as much sunshine as you can find! Please RSVP sometime this week, so Carl and Sally will have a better idea of how many to plan on. You can email Carl at kokct2004@yahoo.com Incidently, Norm from Norm's Model Supply has donated a track cleaner wheel set that Carl plans to raffle off with proceeds to go to VGRS. Here is a link to the track cleaner. http://choochoostuff.homestead.com/NMSTC.html |
